The Jigsaw puzzle is an old game. It was already in 1766 by an engraver named John Spilsbury (1739-1769) invented in England. To do this, he pasted a map of the United Kingdom on a Holzbrettchen and zersÃĪgte this along the lines of the various counties. The player had to try again to complete the card. So he sold his memory cards covered with as a "Teaching tool to facilitate the teaching of geography". Yet, the parts were still not Interlocked, as we know it today. This so-called interlocking puzzle were only in the second half of the 19th century.
At the beginning of the 20th century began the mass production of puzzles produced so far in by hand. This, the once expensive games could be offered cheaper and so their popularity increase. To date, little has changed on the principle of the production. A motif printed on cardboard is broken down into many small pieces with a stamp. The hand-crafted punches are as individual that the puzzle pieces different look. Sometimes multiple stamping must be used with giant puzzles. The most important progress made the producers in the production which cut parts by always more precise. This is also one of the crucial qualities of a puzzle, in addition to the pressure and the stability of the colors. More precisely, the parts are punched, the chance to combine parts is the lower.

The level of difficulty can be still further increased except through the number of parts and the colour characteristics of the subject, such as large areas with low colour gradations. Some ISPs send puzzles without design template or mix two games together. Also a combination of two levels of difficulty are offered. There are puzzles that are printed on both sides with (different) designs, so you must also decide which is the "correct" page of each part of the puzzle. Also puzzles without just offered to cut edge, where some additional parts were added, which do not belong to the subject. Here is the challenge is to create not only the puzzle but find out the unnecessary parts.
By Ravensburger Silver (654 items) there are also two puzzles (2006) without motive, the crypt as a "Puzzle challenge" and to assemble the crypt bronze (631 parts), where only due to the shape of the puzzle pieces a blank grey (654 items) or bronze tinted surface (70 × 50 cm) is. This series was supplemented by additional colors.
